Insanely Cool Tools - Substack Edition #8
Best tools in your pocket! 📱
Hello! 👋
AI made it worse...
I think that once everyone started building SaaS, micro SaaS, apps, and tools with the help of AI, things got worse.
Yes, there are new simple tools that help us. There are free tools too. There is good stuff out there in general, I agree with that. AI agents and automations are good examples.
But hear me out.
In the last few months, I’ve tried many tools, SaaS products, or whatever you want to call them. Most of them have one thing in common: a beautiful landing page.
AI has clearly been trained to do better UI for landing pages because that’s the first impression and the main benchmark.
But the actual services are bad. Not only do they fail to solve a real pain point, sometimes they do it very poorly, with lots of bugs, or they don’t even work at all.
But don’t get me wrong:
Not all SaaS tools are bad. But if I had to put a percentage on it, I’d say 80%.
There is nothing wrong with a beautiful landing page. But when that’s the only good thing about your service, that’s a problem.
I would suggest focusing on building really good services that solve real pain points first, and then treating a beautiful landing page as a secondary goal.
How do you do that?
Ask your users. Ask potential users, free users, and people who joined and used it at least once. Hop on a call with them and discuss the changes they’d like to see. As a founder, that always gives you a fresh and authentic perspective.
That’s what we did with Carousel Maker.
It’s far from perfect….
But instead of making false promises and promoting it like, “OMG, this is the best tool ever,” Simonas and I are spending a lot of time polishing things. We also hired a very talented designer, Nadia, to create beautiful templates because we knew that was our weak point.
On top of that, we asked her to share her insights, tips, and suggestions, because she has years of experience creating carousels.
My main point is not to discourage people or talk badly about others.
I just want to express my concern that people should focus not only on MRR and number of user, but on creating something truly valuable.
